Why Art Belongs in Every Child’s Life

In a world filled with screens, schedules, and stress, giving a child a paintbrush might seem small—but it can be life-changing.

At Junction City Arts Council, we believe art is more than just fun. It’s a way for kids to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with the world around them. Whether it’s a kindergartener proudly holding up their first painted pumpkin or a fifth grader learning to mix colors and tell stories through brushstrokes, art has the power to shape how kids see themselves—and their future.

Art builds more than just pictures.

Creative activities support:

Problem-solving: Art encourages kids to explore “what if” and try new approaches.

Emotional development: Making art helps children process emotions and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Focus and patience: Working on an art project from start to finish teaches perseverance.

Fine motor skills: Cutting, painting, drawing—all of these strengthen hand-eye coordination.

Joy: And sometimes, that’s the most important reason of all.

What we’re doing

JCAC offers free art classes for local children throughout the year. These classes introduce students to painting, clay, mixed media, and more. Every project is designed with learning, laughter, and creativity in mind. We aim to make the arts accessible to every family—no matter their budget.

How you can help

These classes are made possible through generous donations from people like you. A gift of any amount helps us buy art supplies, pay teaching artists, and keep programs free and open to the community.
