From Paper Mâché and Clay to Paint and Storytelling: Exploring the Creative World of Emily Vieyra
The Junction City Arts Council is pleased to welcome artist Emily Vieyra as the featured speaker for the next JCArts Talks Seminar on Saturday, June 20, at 2:00 p.m. at the Munson Arts Education Building, 131 W. 7th Street in Junction City.

Emily brings a diverse background in both the arts and education. Her experience spans K-12 visual art, college English, creative writing, and theatre appreciation. She currently works as a writing specialist and academic coach at Kansas State University.
Emily’s artwork explores the human experience through painting, sculpture, and mixed media. The human figure often takes center stage in her paintings, while her paper mâché and ceramic sculptures frequently feature hearts, hands, and the uterus. She sometimes incorporates found objects and recycled materials into her work, creating pieces that are both personal and thought-provoking.
Recently, Emily has become especially interested in representing the heart in her artwork.

“We are completely reliant on the work it does, yet upon viewing we might recoil,” she explains. “It is both precious and grotesque, celebrated and avoided.”
Her work draws on a variety of cultural and personal associations, including history, religion, health, memory, and love.
Emily enjoys working with simple materials such as flour, water, paper, and stoneware clay. During the seminar, she will discuss her creative process, the materials she uses, and how art has played an important role in her life.
“Working on my own art as well as helping others find theirs has brought me profound joy and a unique sense of purpose,” she says.
The JCArts Talks Seminar Series offers the public an opportunity to hear directly from artists about their creative journeys, inspirations, and artistic practices.
Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.
