Celebrating the Power of Arts Education

September 13–19 is National Arts in Education Week, a time to recognize the important role the arts play in the lives and education of young people. This year’s theme, “Every Student, Every Community,” is one that fits especially well with the mission of JCArts.

Arts education is about much more than learning to paint a picture, play an instrument, perform on stage, or dance. Through the arts, students develop creativity, confidence, problem-solving skills, perseverance, collaboration, and new ways to communicate and express themselves.

Throughout Arts in Education Week, JCArts is highlighting voices from across our arts community who see these benefits firsthand. Teachers and arts professionals have shared thoughtful perspectives about what happens when young people are given opportunities to create. Their experiences remind us that the value of arts education often reaches far beyond the finished artwork or performance.

We’re also celebrating the many ways arts learning happens in our community. It takes place in school art rooms, music classrooms, and performance spaces, but also through after-school programs, community organizations, studios, workshops, and other creative opportunities.

JCArts is proud to be part of that work. Throughout the year, we partner with local schools and organizations to bring hands-on arts experiences to young people throughout our community. These partnerships help us reach children where they are and give them more opportunities to explore, experiment, and create.

Every child deserves opportunities to discover their creativity, develop new skills, and experience the arts. We’re grateful for the teachers, artists, organizations, families, and community members who help make those opportunities possible.
